Selling on Your Own vs. Using Cash for Cars in San Diego

– brought to you by Cash For Cars

The most important thing to consider when selling a used car is the selling price. Of course, you want to be able to get the most cash for your car and in order to do that, you need to take a few things into consideration. Thes include how, when, and where you want to sell the car.

How Quickly Do You Want to Sell?

The resources you use to sell your car in San Diego should depend on how quickly you want to sell the vehicle. How fast you want to sell your vehicle will often also play a part in how much cash you will be able to make for your car, because some resources will cost more than others.

The quickest way to get cash for cars in San Diego is to use the Cash for Cars website. This will provide you with a fast, convenient, and easy way to sell your car, with an appraisal often only taking a few minutes. If you aren’t in a hurry to sell your car, you could list it in your local auto trader newspaper, or online on websites such as AutoTrader, Craigslist, Cars.com, and even eBay. However, most of these options will charge a fee anywhere from $25-$300 or more and can also take a percentage of the sale. They might take a long time for your vehicle to sell, especially if it has body damage, does not run, or needs work.

How Much Time & Effort do You Want to Put into Selling Your Car?

Selling a car takes both time and effort. If you do not want to spend the time detailing the car and getting it ready to sell, then dealing with marketing, taking it on test drives, negotiating price, and dealing with payment collections and paperwork, then selling a vehicle yourself is probably not a good option.

Getting a vehicle ready for sale takes a lot of time. You need to make sure that the car is clean and detailed, that all of the lights work, and that the tires are in good condition. It is also a good idea to have the car serviced with either a tune up or an oil change as that can be an additional selling point. All of these things have to be done before listing your vehicle for sale, if you want to make the most cash for your car, Cash for Cars in San Diego might be a much better option.

Determining How Much Your Car is Worth

Once you have decided how quickly you want to sell your car, how much work you want to put into making the sale, and what resources you want to use, it is time to find out roughly how much your car is actually worth. You can do this online, and there are several fantastic websites that list car values. They include Edmunds, NADAGuides, and Kelley Blue Book. You will need to enter some information about your vehicle in order to get the projected value of the car. However, remember to deduct any money you have spent getting the vehicle ready for sale and listing it on any resources, and don’t expect to be able to sell the vehicle for the exact amount listed if you sell it as a private party sale. You can also check places such as Craigslist, Auto Trader, and eBay to see what comparable cars are being sold for.

Conclusion

As you can see, selling a vehicle privately, and getting the most cash for your car takes time and effort, and there is no guarantee that your vehicle will sell quickly. Because of this, many people choose to sell their vehicles to a place such as Cash for Cars in San Diego. Doing so will often allow you to get the best value for your vehicle with the least amount of work.

Selling Your Car In Sacramento – brought to you by Cash For Cars

I am the type of person who thinks everything in life should be hassle free, but when I think about where to sell my car in Sacramento I have a slight panic attack. Where do I start? When I ask my friends where to sell my car in Sacramento, California the first thing they suggest is linking up with people through online classified ads. The problem with that solution is that I don’t live in the capital city of California so I can spend all of my free time meeting with randoms in parking lots instead of getting coffee with my best friends in Old Sacramento or Sutter’s Fort. I actually began wondering where to sell my car in Sacramento when I was driving it down the cobbled streets of the Old Sacramento district and I realized I need to be driving something much smaller and lighter and newer. I had to get rid of my car.

Get Cash For Your Car in California

Sacramento Tower Bridge

So I decided I needed to do more than talk to friends who had been frustrated by a process I did not want to allow to aggravate me, and I began to research all of the options about where to sell my car in Sacramento, CA but it was hard to focus. I have a beautiful car that any collector would adore in perfect condition, but it was a gift from my parents and simply doesn’t suit my lifestyle. It guzzles gas, is a pain to have fixed and attracts way too much attention from car buffs! I started to browse online classifieds, looking for people who were looking for my car and my mind would drift to thoughts of all the beauty happening on stage at The Sacramento Ballet I was missing just to do this research so I could be more comfortable driving there in the future. I realized in searching where to sell my car in Sacramento that I wanted to be able to eliminate too much thought about who I would be selling the car to.

When I first thought about where to sell my car in Sacramento, California I could only come up with meeting places for the people I might be trying to sell my car to. Most of the people interested in my car would be wealthy, established folks who knew about cars and would be starting their collection with my car or would be adding to an existing collection. My ex-boss said if she were looking where to sell my car in Sacramento, CA she would start at Biba’s Restaurant, swing over to the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and end the night with a cocktail somewhere special with nothing more than a “for sale” sign in the window. Did I mention I am anxious around people I don’t know, especially those who approach me wanting to buy my car for much less than it is worth? Cruising was not going to work as a solution for where to sell my car in Sacramento

They are so widespread, they’re even starting to show up on television. We’re talking those “cash for gold” operations, asking you to send old no-longer-wanted pieces of jewelry or anything else with gold in it, in exchange for a quick payment.

It has permeated the mainstream media, including a story by the Associated Press on Oct. 21, 2008 titled “At pawn shops, the cash-strapped trade in memories.” It goes beyond pawn shops, explaining how more people are trading in their gold to deal with the challenging economic times.

Why just settle for gold? You might have a goldmine sitting right under you – a used car. Businesses offering cash for used cars have been around for years, and many have become sophisticated with websites and services such as quick appraisals and cash on the spot.

Worried that if you sell a used car that you would just have to spend the money on another, because you need a vehicle for work or school? Well, many people are downsizing, such as to a smaller more fuel efficient car. You might just be able to swap cars and end up with some cash in your pocket. Cash for used cars doesn’t always mean parting with owning a vehicle in its entirety.

Economic Demands and Cash for Used Cars

Rising prices for gold have allowed services such as Cash for Gold USA, an Internet site offering customers a check if they mail in pieces of gold, to grow and thrive. People can send in anything, from class rings to dental fillings.

Add to that the recessionary economy, and people are turning to such services to meet their personal cash demands.

Same can go with cars. During the economic boom a few years ago, many households purchased an extra car, maybe for commuting, maybe for a growing child.

With today’s sluggish new-car market, you might be amazed at deals car dealerships or car-sales organizations will offer. Cash for a used car might be easier than you think.

Numerous media articles in October 2008 indicated used car sales are up as new car sales have slid the entire year. People are just going for better prices, even if it means buying a used car.

“We’re doing very well with used car sales,” one dealership general manager told the Houston Chronicle on Oct. 19.

Expanding Market Bolsters Cash for Used Cars Market

What’s this mean for someone who needs cash for used cars, and fast? It means there is a demand. Demand means more potential buyers for your used vehicle. The more demand, the better the price you can set.

This is especially true if you have a newer model, or a car that’s highly desirable, such as any Toyota used car, or a Ford Mustang. People want reliable or even sexy cars, even if it means used.

And the thing about cash for used cars compared with cash for gold is you’re probably going to get more overall for a used vehicle. Unless, of course, you’ve stashed a ton of jewelry at your house over the years.

Plus, a spouse may balk at parting with family heirlooms, or even old earrings. Not so much if it’s dealing with an old jalopy parked out front.

Orange County, California shined brightly starting around the turn of the century, with a World Series win by its perennial runner-up Angels, a movie and popular television shows named after it, and even the Anaheim Ducks won the hockey’s Stanley Cup.

It was so popular, it became known simply as “The OC.”

Back to the Future

It seems that the OC is reverting back to its mid-1990s form, with cash shortages not only by local government agencies, but also wealthy residents who made a ton off stocks or the booming housing market.

Well, the housing bubble burst and the stock market has taken a tank, and going down with them are huge chunk of Orange County residents.

It’s the return of the so-called Lemon County, and more and more residents there are seeking quick cash fixes. Selling your home in this market is probably not the most prudent choice, considering dropping prices and an unpredictable market.

What about selling your lemon? We’re talking about cars, and it’s interesting that services that buy used cars in Orange County talk about offering cash for “junk cars.”

What about selling a used car that’s not junk? There are plenty of them out there in the OC – the fifth most-populated county in America. That means lots of cars that can get good, cold cash for used cars in Orange County.

The Market for Cash for Used Cars in Orange County

Today, not everyone is hurting financially in Orange County. Those who positioned themselves well might be looking to take advantage of others’ misfortune, by helping them part with valuables such as used cars.

They probably scour extensive classified listings in the Orange County Register or the Orange County Auto Trader, looking for that poor sap who must part with his Mercedes in Manhattan Beach, or a Lexus in Laguna Beach.

These folks most definitely are ready to present cash for used cars in Orange County – if you’re not too picky about the final price.

On your side is the fact that local media outlets have reported in recent months that new-car sales in Orange County have been terrible. With the uncertain economic forecast, people are either holding onto their cars longer, or buying used.

That expands the market – and your odds for cash for used cars, Orange County.

The Orange County Register reported that from May 2007 to May 2008, new-car sales in the OC dropped more than 18 percent.

Your Model’s Impact on Cash for Used Cars, Orange County

The same Register article offered insight into which types of cars Orange County residents want – or no longer want. Take notice of these vehicles to ascertain whether it’s good or bad for you in your “cash for used cars Orange County quest.”

Gas guzzlers are out – duh. Registrations of new trucks in May 2008 were down 30.4% compared with a year prior. Subcompacts like the Honda Civic and Toyota Prius grew in sales by 3%.

Strikingly, sales of Kia models soared 69% upward during the year ending May 31, 2008 in Orange County. The most popular was the Rondo, a small SUV that gets 26 miles per gallon on the highway and has a starting price of $17,045.

Mini, Volkswagen, Buick, Mazda and Hyundai also saw increased sales in Orange County through May. Scion is the most popular brand in the OC, but its sales fell 19.9% through May.

If you own a vehicle with increasing sales as outlined above, you’re in great shape to get cash for used cars, Orange County, and fast. If your car is listed as among those with declining sales, well, perhaps you should start looking for that old baseball card collection in the attic.

Most people when they start thinking about selling a used car begin to wonder, “Is there a buyer nearby?”

Especially in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, where up to 17 million people live within about 4,850 square miles.

Used car sales aren’t always the most lucrative, so how does someone who is trying to sell a car in Thousand Oaks market to someone in Irvine?

Selling a Car Can be Expensive

Obviously, selling a used vehicle is easier when the two parties involved can meet, look at the car and go for a test drive.

That isn’t always easy when selling a car in Los Angeles. Driving to meet prospective customers means shelling out gas money.

Governmental bureaucrats refer to the area reaching from Ventura County to the southwestern area of San Bernardino County as Greater Los Angeles.

Greater Los Angeles contains more than 14 million drivers – an estimated 3.1 vehicles per household.

That’s good and bad when you’re selling a used car.

Good because it’s a huge market and that increases the odds that someone out there will want your year, make and model.

Bad because the odds are also good that someone else has exactly the same car for sale that you offer – possibly in better condition, and probably with a lower price tag.

Most Popular Cars in Los Angeles

Selling a car in Los Angeles successfully means pricing accordingly, for a start it’s nice to know which cars Angelenos prefer.

There are several sources that keep track of this, and in general, the Toyota Camry is the top seller in the region (just like everywhere else), followed by the Ford F-Series truck (only in America) and Honda Accord.

Granted, these sales were logged at the end of 2007, so who knows how large trucks are faring as we near the end of 2008.

Other cars that sell well in Greater Los Angeles are the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Silverado, Nissan Altima, Dodge Caravan /Grand Caravan, Ford Mustang, and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.

Interestingly enough, the most-popular vehicle colors are silver, white and black. Seems rather amusing that such a diverse population prefers the most non-colorful hues for cars.

Maybe Angelenos believe the rumor that bright colors are more likely to attract the attention of law enforcement officers. When you have to drive a lot (and in the Los Angeles area this is generally the case) cutting the odds of getting pulled over is a good idea.

Our point is: learn whether your car is popular in the region, and price it accordingly.

Using Demographics in Your Favor

Selling a car in Los Angeles is easier if you take time to discover demographic traits and target your marketing appropriately.

What someone in Pasadena prefers can differ greatly from the car a resident of Oxnard is looking for.

Some of the most affluent communities in America are in the Greater Los Angeles area, but sports and luxury cars like Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are not included in the top 10 top sellers there.

Probably because the size of the middle class dwarfs that of the poor, and the rich.

Think about what most people need in Los Angeles. Probably topping that list are good fuel economy and reliability, since public transportation is limited and commuters need dependable vehicles.

Today you’ll have a hard time selling a used car that gets 12 miles per gallon.

So make a list of your used car’s best traits, and push them hard when marketing the sale.

Great fuel economy and reliability are both strong selling points. So is maintenance, especially if you kept your service receipts.

On another front, Angelenos are known for a desire to look cool, so if your paint job is perfect, or you customized your vehicle, don’t forget to point that out.

Fourteen million drivers means at least that many cars. The trick is making yours stand out.

With U.S. auto sales in decline, American automakers have turned their focus to a somewhat unusual niche.

Certified pre-owned vehicles.

In short, when they ain’t sellin’ new, try sellin’ used.

Automakers Selling Their Used Cars Online

Chrysler announced in late June 2008 that it was teaming with eBay to list Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge certified pre-owned cars on the new eBay Motors’ Certified Pre-Owned Showroom.

Chrysler’s attempt to push more used cars is of interest, but equally noteworthy is eBay’s acknowledgement of the market.

The eBay Motors’ CPO Showroom is aimed at marketing franchised dealers’ certified used-vehicle inventory.

It claims 12 million monthly unique visitors, and more than 15,000 late-model, fully inspected and reconditioned Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles.

They come with amenities which include

Factory-backed warranties

A free CARFAX vehicle history report

Road-side assistance

Rental car allowances

Offering warranties, car histories, rental car assistance and the like has become commonplace for the large automakers, to keep their models on roadways and help maintain brand image while making a few extra dollars.

But as the new-car market dries up, American automakers are keen on growing their share of the used-car market.

They are tapping ways to expand their reach, such as engaging enormous online companies, and even figuring ways to hinder competition.

Big Brother Always Watching?

Earlier this year General Motors unveiled its UsedCarAmbush.com, which airs website video clips of what the company deems shady used car lot operators.

The intent is to attack sellers of non-certified pre-owned vehicles.

The site uses hidden camera clips to highlight the benefits of GM’s certified used cars. Such as:

5-year / 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty

3-month / 3,000-mile new vehicle warranty extension

24 / 7 roadside assistance and courtesy transportation

CARFAX Vehicle History Report

3-Day / 150-mile “No Questions Asked” customer satisfaction guarantee

GMAC new car-like financing

117-point inspection by factory-trained technicians

The new website “reveals risks of purchasing used vehicles without manufacturer certification”, according to GM’s media release announcing it.

The intent is to discourage private car dealers from selling cars not deemed worthy by the manufacturer, in this case, GM.

It seems to make sense, since GM certified used vehicles are the industry’s top-selling certified brand.

Even so, in June its sales were down 10% from the same month a year ago, at 36,445 vehicles.

But some makes, particularly those at the higher end, are up. Sales of Cadillac certified pre-owned vehicles, for example, were up 5%; Saab, up 10%; and Hummer, up 37%.

Brand Spankin’ Used

The Internet continues to play a bigger role in marketing for large American corporations. Large homebuilders, for example, are shying away from print advertisements in favor of online campaigns.

Chrysler’s certified pre-owned program is marketed as “Brand Spankin’ Used.” Already it partners with Cars.com and AutoTrader.com.

“In today’s economy, consumers are more Internet savvy and shop for quality products online”, a Chrysler senior manager of certified pre-owned vehicles said.

The new eBay Motors CPO Showroom lets consumers see certified pre-owned inventory from Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers within their local area, in a format similar to newspaper classified listings.

For cars to qualify and be certified under Chrysler’s used-vehicle program, they must be a 2003 through 2008 model with less than 65,000 miles, and pass a stringent 125-point mechanical, safety and condition standard inspection.

They come with

Eight-year / 80,000-mile powertrain limited warranty

24 / 7 roadside assistance

$35 per day rental car allowance

Three-month or 3,000-mile Maximum Care warranty, on top of any remaining three-year / 36,000-mile comprehensive new vehicle warranty

Competition among automakers in the used-car market is blossoming.

“There’s great confusion among consumers about what constitutes a certified used vehicle”, said Mark Mathews, director, GM Used-Vehicle Activities. “Manufacturer certified vehicles offer new-vehicle-like benefits and financing options where others do not; private sellers being the most risky option”.
